Wait til they ask you for your SSN. The picture will become clearer. x-ebayer for life.

Why is this a problem? If you receive funds, you potentially owe federal and/or state taxes on it as income, and as a third-party payment processor, ebay has government-mandated reporting obligations. PayPal asks for your SSN as well.

gmot makes an excellent point about not overselling. When I see verbiage like "rare" or "look!" and so forth, it says to me the seller simply does not know what they have, or are just trying to lure me in. A solid listing title is one that is easily "findable." Example: 1878 Chile Scott #31/SG #34, Lightly Hinged, Minor Perf Issue Upper Left. (I made up the SG number on the fly just as an example and know the Scott 31 is actually rouletted.)

I know we are getting into the weeds a bit, but I also find sellers that grade their stamps in their listings a bit off-putting. Let the seller decide if it is XF, F/VF and so forth.

Sure anyone who has purchased stamps has come across a couple of dealers that seem to list every stamp as VF; even examples that are grossly out of center.

One more thing. ebay sometimes give promotions. However those promotions are usually 5 dollars off 50 dollars for example. 49.99 is the most annoying thing to see and costs sellers sales. They just don't know it. In the year 2024 buyers are not that dumb to fall for gimmicks like 1.99 instead of 2dollars etc....

I've been selling various things on ebay since 1999, including stamps. I have found the odds of selling anything there have gone way down, yet fees have gone way up. Blame the economy if you want, but it has been happening gradually for many years.

If you DO get to actually make sales, pack those stamps well. Remember rain does hit people's mail! ;-)
