Curious as to what others think of the stamp on the left . Is this the 28a , deep green or the 28, green version. The tablet green fits the deep green criteria but the rest of the stamp appears just green. The right stamp is what I would consider SG 28, green.

Either this or a similar one from another colony came up a few years ago. The left, likely, has a very faded gead plate and was green. The other looks faded as well.

I don't know if this will help or not.

I would ignore the stamp on the left. The margins are yellow instead of white and the stamp has a greasy appearance. The two middle stamps definitely have different shades in the key plate . The specimen stamp is very dark and very sharp.

I'm no expert.

I can't contribute to answering the original question, but this example brings up a subject which has annoyed me for a long time...

All the "major" catalogs are highly deficient in listing the colors and color variations of these "keyplate" -- often essentially bicolored -- stamps. That includes both SG and Scott.

While one might think SG should be more detailed than Scott on this subject, that is not always the case. The way the SG catalog editors did/do treat this subject, it is as if they just don't care or don't recognize these as being different colors.

This whole matter -- involving most if not all of the relevant British Colonies -- really needs to be completely reworked in the catalogs.

Until SG cares, Scott is perhaps not likely to care... unless individual-Colony experts will supply Scott with specific details (and examples to examine) on what exists. IMHO it would be great if Scott were to take the lead on this.

If you such an "individual Colony expert", I can put you in touch with the Scott editor who would be the most interested in improving the listings in the Scott Classic catalog.
