I have been a seller on ebay for many years. I found to my surprise that I have a listing that doesn't meet ebay's policies. The listing was removed by ebay but doesn't specifically detail why the listing is offensive, they just list a long list of things that may make your listing offensive.

The lot in question was a full pane of 20 of the Actress Hattie McDaniel issued by the USPS in 2006. The listing heading was:

3996 Hattie McDaniel Actress Gone with the Wind - pane PO Fresh Mint NH

I normally would not post this here but instead try and contact ebay, but I find trying to contact ebay is just about impossible in my experience. Any comments?

I searched for her name in the ebay support forums and found a few similar occurrences.

It just takes a few people that are "offended" to report the item and it gets taken down, whether or not the specific item would be considered offensive to a general audience, it just takes a few keywords to show up in a Search and you get targeted. Probably not worth re-listing, just use them as postage, or try HipStamp or elsewhere.

The occasions I've had things taken down have had nothing to do with complaints and everything to do with ebay automatic censoring. I tried a couple of times to list obviously empty, pre-WWII tobacco tins, and my listings were removed because the tins could contain tobacco. In that case, I'd have been smoking it.

I had a General Mills plastic Flags of the World coin/token from the 1960s removed because it showed the flag of Syria. The coin was produced in the USA yet ebay removed the listing because of a US embargo of products produced in Syria. No amount of reasoning could reverse that decision.

well at least you were able to argue the removal, I keep going round and round as if I was in a treadmill trying to find a link to contact them.

It was tedious and I can't remember how I finally got a contact, but it was hopeless once I did. It makes me wonder how ebay treats stamps from Syria. I can certainly find listings and any used ones definitely came from Syria compared to my flag coin that never left North America.

My recent attempt to list a lot of Syrian stamps was immediately nixed. They returned as "Middle East" and sold.

It appears using the German 'Syrien' already confuses the filter.

The woke culture has been trying to cancel GWTW for years. Likewise they are trying to cancel Hattie McDaniel's Best Supporting Actress Oscar win for the type of character she played and was honored for in the movie. A house slave character doesn't fit the modern extreme woke narrative.

I am surprised the same group has not gone after Sidney Poitier, KBE, for his Oscar winning Best Actor Award for the role he played in a movie with a serious Catholic theme. Perhaps when he gets is own US Stamp, they will flock to grind the bones of history into dust.

Fortunately, the woke people at ebay have not yet become such extremists that they started cancelling that amiable Austrian corporal.

(sarcasm)
