I'm not "into" stamps, but I've been going through my Dad's old saved treasures, mostly aircraft related; he started his aviation career in the 1920's and was a test pilot for Fleetwings in the late 1930's and much of the 1940s.

I know stamps are a "dime a dozen" - I bought strips of 5 (if that's what you call them) of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair and the Project Mercury stamps back in the day figuring they'd fund my retirement some day. I'm still waiting.

Dad was also an avid hunter and "helped" wildlife whenever he could, including "game feeding" from his airplane to prevent starvation during cold, snowy PA winters in the 1930's. So I wasn't surprised to find this amongst his treasures:

I've searched the web trying to find info about the stamp documentation. (I've found lots of info about the stamp (first multi-color duck stamp). Is the documentation unique? I would think a collector would value it. How do I find it a good home (grandkids aren't interested).

Dad was also a pilot for the 1938 National Air Mail Week and saved numerous letters from that event such as this one:

I found places on web to post pics and documents of his saved aircraft memorabilia - is their a website audience that would be interested in seeing his National Air Mail Week memorabilia?

Thanks for any and all advice.

I'm don't collect duck stamps, and I have minimal knowledge about US airmail, but I wanted to say how interesting I found your post. I'm sure there are collectors out there who'd love to see your dad's material and would give it a good home. I'm going to try to interest my grandkids in stamp collecting when they get a little older. Would be nice to keep the stamps in the family. —Aquinas

PhanDad47,

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game. Wonderful you are carrying on your father's collection. You are the next steward of a family treasure you can pass on to future generations. Its value as a family heirloom wil always surpass it monetary value.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ
