Would you please advise me if this is a relatively valuable cover.
The CDS reads 1 NOE 16 7 E also the town? Alpha Pi O Sigma T O Alpha H
The 10 l in the upper right corner appears to be Scott 237. The strip of 5 of the 2l Scott 234 and a strip of 3 plus 2 unattached of the 3l Scott 235.are across the front as shown.
The stationary is from the Hotel d' Angleterre-Athenes.
It is hand addressed to someone with the address of the hotel..

I have been unsuccessful in finding any info about this.

Thank you.

Considering the cover is from a hotel in Athens and the word 'APOSTOLE' appears in brackets, it might be a district in Athens near the Church of the Holy Apostles and Acropolis. The office name would be at the top of the stamp and not in brackets.

It does appear it was cancelled on the day the overprinted stamp was issued. For that period, it adds some value. Collectors like entires with stamps used on the day of issue.

The cover is 95% philatelic, self addressed on a hotel furnished envelope, addressed to the same hotel. The city is Athens, franked with lower values of the set. ( Scott #'s 234, 235, and 237 making up a 35 Lepta franking. ) Greece was still using the Julian calendar in 1916, so the Gregorian date would be November 14, 1916. Greece had a rather complex history before and during WW1. Athens was controlled by the royalists loyal to King Constantine. Much of the rest of the country was controlled by other factions split between allegencies with both sides of Europe involved in WWI. Greece did not officially enter WW1 until the summer of 1917, but was basically at civil war during this period. These stamps were overprinted with the crown above C for Constatine for us in the Royalist controlled areas.
Interesting history, but given the condition of the stamps, the folds in the large envelope and the most likely philatelic use, if I had the cover I would probably ask $20 for it. But by no means am I an expert in Greek postal history, which is exceedingly complex.
