Hi, I inherited some old, used world stamps. Would I be ok to scan them and sell them as digital copies for crafts?

I make "junk" journals, or art journals and the like. We tend to use a lot of 'vintage' items, stamps being one of the items. They obviously won't be used for letters or collections, and such. Just collage, ephemera and page decorations.

Thank you for any help.

You would not be the first artist to use used stamp reproductions in artwork.

Edit: Of course old common used stamps are very cheap, fractions of a cent to purchase as real, not copied images.

Parcelpostguy - Does that mean I would be ok to sell scan copies of them though?

Do you own the copyright of the design?

Old ones are in the public domain. Alteration for artistic purposes is normally fair use. And copyright protection in one country does not mean it exists in other countries.

I wonder who would buy them. Chances are they, already, can be copied from the web for free.
