I recently listened to an interesting podcast ( Stamp Show Here Today ) on Rosonol vs Clarity that covered various aspects of using watermark detection fluids. One thing that was not cover though, was how log to wait after using either fluid before storing a stamp.

Not sure if it matters , but, is there a recommended length of time to wait after using either fluid and before storing the stamp either in album by hinge or mount or in vario sleeve?? Thanks for any thoughts.... Wm.

I do not have a lot of experience with Clarity, but Ronsonol typically dries in under 2 minutes. The mitigating factor would be whether or not the stamp had gum. With gum it might take longer to dry. I would think sometime after 5 minutes should be safe, but not a guarantee.

While there are some light aromatics in Ronsonal the advantage, if I remember correctly, is that it takes longer to dry and that makes it easier to see pressed out creases, laminated tears and filled thins.

The longer drying time was one of the advantages mentioned in the podcast and why the folks talking, all very qualified collectors/dealers I believe, preferred Rosonol over Clarity. They also mentioned that it was the white bottle Rosonol that has added perfumes/aromatics. They preferred the traditional yellow bottle.

Ah Ronsonal. I am old enough to remember Stamp Club meetings and shows where the rooms were thick with cigar and cigarette smoke and as a boy I was always worried that one of my elders was going to set the stamps org place on fire with all that lighter fluid and its fumes around. But I only experienced one such incident, luckily.

Just one person's M.O., but after checking a watermark with Ronsonol. I just put it near a fan to let it air out for 5 minutes and then do the smell test. If it smells like the fluid, give it another 5 minutes.

Just be sure to make sure the fan does not blow the stamp out of whatever you put the fluid in.

Never try to reuse spilt watermark fluid since it can pick up surface impurities that can ruin your stamp.
Spilled some philatelic watermark fluid on a desk and it picked up some brown color from the desk.
