Greetings. I am an American expat living in South Korea. I bought a box of books several years ago, and in the bottom of the box was a bunch of stamp collector albums. The albums contain stamps from several different countries but most were Korean. There is also some old paper currencies. Not sure how much any of the items are worth, so hoping to get some advice from members who are more knowledgeable about such things.

Greetings. Always fun to find treasure at the bottom of a big box. I'll have to guess that the overall value is minimal, but you never know. Why not start with a few scans of what you think may be the oldest / have some value, and the group can help you out. A scan is best, but a good phone photo would also suffice. Stick around ...

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

Welcome to the forum, aminkorea!

I see you're asking for advice, but I wonder what kind of advice you're asking for. There are so many possible topics for advice!

You mention wondering about worth. That word is a flag, possibly indicating that your interest is in selling, not in furthering the collections you found.

If selling is your interest and you'd first like to get an idea about worth, one thing to do is to go to a library to find a stamp catalog and a paper money catalog. Bring photos of a few of the stamps and currencies with you.

Another option is to post some photos in the general stamp Forum to ask about worth.

Another option is to give up on researching worth, and bring the albums and currencies with you to a stamp and coin dealer. The dealer will look over the material for a few minutes and then make you an offer.
