Harris Brand Hinges - Any Good?

Does anyone have any experience with the Harris brand hinges? How are they compared to the SuperSafe and Prinz brand hinges. Both of these brands are terrible as they are all in clumps. Lots of wasted time in separating them to say the least. Fold O's are available on ebay but are outrageously costly.

All modern day hinges and I mean all are made by Prinz in Germany.

You get what you pay for. Just like in purchasing stamps. Good quality stamps are like good quality hinges. Both rare.

Best to look for old-time Dennison hinges if you must use hinges.

Harris hinges are not very good, but neither are any other modern hinges. When collectors started figuring this out some years ago, they did one of two things -- they switched to stamp mounts or they bought up old stock hinges from companies like Dennison (not Dennis"e"n which is a rip-off name) at higher and higher prices. Or they did some of both.

Someday all the old stock Dennison hinges will finally be gone. (Where were all of them hiding out these past few decades, I wonder?) Shed a tear as they really are peelable but still hold well. An unbelievable invention apparently never to be repeated -- like the manual transmission, wearing shoes on an airplane, or stopping at stop signs.

You might try cutting your hinges in half as that will do less damage and still hold the stamp okay. Think of modern hinges almost like glue. Using less is better.

Like most collectors above the beginner level, I've moved mostly to stamp mounts which also have the benefit of making stamps look better on the album page. But I do use hinges in my large worldwide albums because most of those stamps are used and already hinged. Also adding mounts to both sides of every page in a Scott International album is a big mistake because the albums soon bulge like crazy, so you'll have to use more and more binders, and my International album is already up to 40 volumes! Help! I'm stuck in quicksand and going under!
