Hi Everyone,

I'm JP, and this is my first post. It's great to meet you all, and I am grateful for this forum!

I am from Upstate New York, and have collected postage stamps since age nine, in 1979, when a family member gave me a 1979 United States Commemorative Stamp Set that they had bought at the Post Office. I found it special and very interesting, and I was hooked. I still have that set today, and lots more stamps.

For a long time, people sent me stamps on paper, ripped from the envelopes they had received. I have soaked hundreds of stamps in my day, and enjoyed it quite a lot.

I'll be watching for helpful tidbits so that I can increase the monetary and sentimental value of my collection.

I plan to try to post from time to time about my collection, which includes some topical sub-collections: roses, American flags, flags in general, and other topics. I haven't dug out my stamps in a while, so forgive me if I forget what some of my topics are at this moment.

Most of all, it is great to have now become part of such a welcoming and kind community of like-minded folks. I look forward to becoming more familiar with you.

May You Be Well and Happy,
JP

Hello JP, welcome to the forum. My advice is to display your collection in a way that pleases you, because you will be the most important viewer of your collection.

One thing that is likely to give you satisfaction is to make your own album pages for your stamps. There are a lot of different softwares out there that are useful in making your own album pages. In my case, I just use microsoft word.

Below each stamp and at the bottom of each page, you can print the things about the stamp that you find interesting. People who don't even collect stamps would enjoy reading that.

JP,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

I just downloaded album creation software called AlbumEasy. I like it, partly because it's what I used a year or so ago, and partly because it's simple to use and modify the pages.

@lightly_unhinged thanks for the advice to print a little bit of information about the stamps on the album page. I'll start doing that.
