I'm torn (no pun intended) between two stamps (who shall remain nameless). On the left is a nicely centered copy, OG, with what appears to be a small tear just below the middle on the left side. On the right is a not so nicely centered, OG, with no tear and good perfs. Which is the better choice and why?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

The ridiculous obsession with perfect centring is an American hobby. Considering you are posting in the worldwide classic stamps forum, forget about the centring here.

If not too badly centred (i.e., the perforations do not cut into the image, and worse is acceptable for a lot of 19th-century stamps), centring only comes into consideration if you have two otherwise identical stamps. Since one has a tear and the other does not and has better perforations, it is a no-brainer. I am assuming the back is not much different.

The sound stamp will be the better choice nearly 100% of the time.
Or wait for a 3rd copy - because the fact that you ask the question strongly suggests you are not truly satisfied with either one.

I agree with John. Physical fitness trumps symmetry.
