The image below is a #406 used as a Seattle Postmaster Provisional Postage Due. I believe they were all pre-cancelled prior to use on mailings. This one is on a cover piece and was cancelled after the stamp was applied. I'd like to know if any other covers, or on-piece examples exist, either precancelled or, as with this example, cancelled after the stamp was applied. If you are A United States Stamp Society member, there is a article in Vol. 85, No. 4 April 2014 pages 176-178 about these provisional dues. The article states there is only one cover known but perhaps there are others? If you have one I'd like to see it.
