Bitte gern, my Belgian friend

By the way, maybe this could be interesting for you – some pages from my Belgium perfin collection…

Thank you for your nice reply. I collect only US stamps, avoided perfins because I considered them damaged. This thread changed my view somewhat. Still I am not going to hunt US perfins but will arrest them now when included in some lot for free. BTW I got 3 or 4 more. Would you be so kind as to ID them?

The challenge with the General Electric perfin is that there are so many similar variations. Most of them have control holes around the G-circle, but a few do not—and this stamp is one of those exceptions. To accurately identify which variation this is, I would need to place the stamp directly on the corresponding catalog page..

Here are some Canadian perfins. The Sunlife Assurance Company of Canada (S15) in particular. All with a rotation of '1'.

The BNAPS has produced a 'free' Canada Perfin Handbook that provides detailed information on Canadian Perfins. ( https://bnaps.org/PerfinHandbook/Pe...Handbook.htm )

I know. Perfins are strange birds!!

I also consider them "damaged," but that alone wouldn't stop me from collecting them. What **does** hinder me is that I have no idea how I'd sort and display them. Maybe black background paper, but the perfins are easiest to see from the backside of the stamp, and storing them backwards seems, well...backwards :-} I see in this post that using the black plastic stock pages is a good way to house and display them, but I don't even know what all the entities are that "perfinned" stamps in the first place, so would I collect a stamp perfinned, or collect all perfinned types of a few stamps? I dunno!

I'm trying to build a worldwide collection by adding country albums as I get enough stamps to warrant the print job (Steiner pages). I have a formidable enough job on my hands with that, so probably won't try to do perfins too :-}

I have a trading partner with whom I swap my perfins for other stamps. He always sends really good stamps I can use, above the common minimal-value items, so I'm pretty sure mine are going to a good home. I figure he must have a master plan as to how he collects, sorts, displays. So, I send.

I had a 13c Eagle "Roots of Democracy" definitive on piece that was perfinned. It was still on piece, so definitely a later date perfin--wasn't that the late 70s?? Of course, I traded it with other perfins a while back.

As an aside, my area of "oddity" in collecting is that I'm trying to assemble a 21st century state taxpaids collection. Mostly cigarette stamps, but still some states have have other stamped taxes. It's surprisingly difficult to find these stamps! But...I'm still plugging at it!!

Josh

If you store them in a clear stock-page with a sheet of black paper behind it, you can see both the image and the perfin.
