The coal looking one is from a large package... not postcard. Are you sure I shouldn't cut it down?

Rod, thanks for the input, and Plateflaw, the precancels. I'm learning... there is just so much to learn.

Actually ordered a book today... "Catalogue of the 20th century stamped envelopes and wrappers of the United
States" ... that is where the bulk of my inheritance lies. :)

We would need a scan Lucky,
No "void" listed under askphil,
may be part of an adjacent auxilliary marking.

rod222, were the postage dues with designs similar the US postage dues printed in Australia? Or were they printed by the same printers as the US ones and sent to Australia?

Rohumpy,
Ours is known as type D1
They were typographed at the New South Wales Govt Printing Office.
Sydney.

These in turn were copied from the NSW postage due stamps.

Those were engraved by A Collingridge,
typo, govt printing office Sydney

from January 1 1892

(there is definitely a hidden story there somewhere regarding the design )

Hope that helps

My unofficial researcher comes through again!

So these are in effect almost woodblocks!
who would have thought.
I only have one NSW example, which looks a little washed out.
(not bad engraving for a woodblock)
Another Victorian on this group is a closet "Dues" collector.

I really like the recycled dutch postage due's .

Especially that they flipped the 3rd stamp (row 2, stamp 1) on it's side to make it fit better.

Here's the original without overprint.
