hey there

I found an old stamp book that my dad used to collect. It contains Algerian stamps along with some from Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, and Egypt so North African stamps in general. They are quite old, with some dating back to 1918, 1929, and even earlier, around the era of the French invasion.

Since I don't know much about stamps, I'd like to educate myself about them to see if they are rare and whether they hold any value.

few pics for reference

Unfortunately, the condition of these stamps is extremely poor, giving them essentially zero value. However, it is always nice to find something that your father enjoyed.

Edit. Please don't double-post the same question. Your other topic was deleted.

One important thing to note in stamp collecting is that "very old" means something different. To me, a very old stamp is one from 1840 to about 1890. (Opinions from others may differ.)

A good condition stamp would have great edges (not bent or torn), and not have any rusting or discoloration anywhere. I see evidence of that on almost all the stamps you've posted. However, if you have some others that you consider in good condition, then please post those in this same thread.

Welcome to the forum.

In stamps old does not equate to rare since they are utilitarian items which were printed in huge quantities for the most part. The very definition of rare is scarce, not often seen etc. Based upon your initial pictures which I assume were taken of what you think are the most interesting items there is minimal monetary value. As Partime said though, the emotional value could be much higher. A connection to the past or someone you held dear.

thank you so much

I think I might have a few stamps from 1830, but I'm not entirely sure. I'll include another page for reference. According to your description, they might not be in perfect condition, but I wouldn't say they are in extremely poor condition either.

a tiny problem ummm idk how to post pics in this same thread lol

The same way you posted pictures in your first posting. Start typing something (by replying to the topic) then add a picture.
