PITSENG 6 DECu48

Pitseng was a post office in Basutoland. Today it is a community in Lesotho.
The image on the one-penny and a half stamp features King George VI, a local mountainous landscape and a massive crocodile. STAMPWORLD catalogue lists the stamp as number 20, first issues in 1938. The Mopija postmark is either a transit marking or a receiving marking. Mopija was a postmark seen in the 1940's but that is all the information I could find. It could be the town of Morija for which I could find historical and current information, but nothing tying it to Mopija.

Yet another double-feature!

MIAMI, DEC 6 1941 3 AM FLA.

This fifty-cent stamp is the top value of the twin-motor transport plane series issue in 1941. STAMPWORLD has assigned it number 31.

Here is some info about these inject spray on cancellations
Canada Post uses the international standard
YY-MM-DD (year-month-day) format and 24 hour or military time

MLOCRs ( Multiline Optical Character Reader) are machines that recognize handwritten or printed addresses, print appropriate bar codes onto envelopes and then use the information in the bar codes to sort mail into stacks

The M4L is the first part of the postal code and stands for Toronto (South Central Letter Processing Plant)

Years ago the injet cancells would show the whole postal code M4L 1A5 which indicated the address as being
969 Eastern Av., Toronto South Central Letter Processing Plant

I received most of this information from The Postal Histoy Corner blog.

PRAMPRAM A DE 9 82

The stamp is GOLD COAST (STAMPWORLD) number 4. It is a half-penny stamp featuring Queen Victoria. The series this stamp belongs to was first issued in 1879.

Prampram is situated east of the Ghana (formerly Gold Coast) capital on the Gulf of Guinea. In 1882, Prampram was a fort town. The red arrow shows the former fort town's location, while the yellow star shows Accra's position on the map. Today, Prampram is part of the Greater Accra Region.

Meanwhile, 32 years later.

NORWOOD GROVE DE 9 14 MAN.

STAMPWORLD lists the 1911 issued seven-cent stamp as number 87. King George V adorns the issue in his Admiral portrait.

Norwood Grove post office in 1914 was located in the Norwood community which is pictured below. Today that community is part of Greater Winnipeg.

MOPIJA 10XIIA48 (BASUTOLAND)

This item of postal stationery from Basutoland in 1948 proves that MOPIJA and MORIJA are the same place. An error occurred in the production of the postmark.
Today the journey between Pitseng and Morija takes only three hours on their A1.

However, back in December 1948, the transportation route between the two points was twice as long.

The options for transportation of the mails would have been the black route shown on the map or possibly carried along the Caledon River for some distance. It left Pitseng on December 6; was in another post office with the last two letters BE on December 7 and arrived in Morija on December 10. Checking with the calendar of the day, this was all mid-week activity. The extra time it appears to have taken to deliver this letter could be attributed to, weather, wilderness conditions and wildlife encounters.
