ALLEY DE 11 93 JAMAICA

The village of Alley is in the center of a sugar cane growing area in Clarendon Parish, one hour walking distance to Carlisle Bay. This can be found in the middle of the island of Jamaica, on the southern shore.

STAMPWORLD lists the three-pence with Queen Victoria as number 22 first issued in 1885.

FREETOWN A DE 12 98 SIERRA LEONE

STAMPWORLD has assigned number 32 to this stamp. It is part of a series issued in 1896. This stamp features a portrait of Queen Victoria. The denomination of the stamp is one-penny and a half penny. Freetown is the capital of Sierra Leone.

Double feature!

REGISTERED 12 DEC ACCRA GOLD COAST

The STAMPWORLD catalogue has assigned number 103 to this three-penny Silver Jubilee stamp issued in 1935. The oval registration postmark at the G.P.O. was used to date the letter. I used ImageSleuth in an attempt to reveal the year of the postmark, but that attempt was not successful. Accra was the capital of Gold Coast (now Ghana).

I am enamored with this particular posting. The stamp, in tandem with the postmark is a jewel in my mind. I will save the image in my collection of images of German postage stamp. Thanks for the posting EdziuMM. I also wish to thank Lithograving for the explanation of spray date marks on Canadian stamps. That was educational. Everyone, just keep posting when you can. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

@rainrainbow, I also enjoy your additional historical and geographical info in
your posts.
It appears that the trio of EdziuMM, you and myself are the only posters on this thread recently.
I wish there were more joining in the fun.

GOUGH ISLAND * 14 DE 55 SOUTH ATLANTIC

Gough Island is a dependency of Tristan da Cunha.
StampWorld.com lists this stamp as their number 15, first issued in 1954 and the design features the then monarch Elizabeth II and a cart that is pulled by cattle. In the cart is flax that has been cultivated for thatching cottage rooves.

Gough Island is 350 km southeast of Tristan da Cunha. South Africa has maintained a weather station there continuously since 1956.

CORRECTION FOR DEC 13
The following is the correct image that should be showing in my posting for December 13.

I maintain two image files for dates. One for stamps, and one for covers. However, the files inside each are label the same: 0101 (JAN 1). That is where I made my mistake. This forum cannot see that the items are different when the file numbers are same even when they come from different files. I will need to change my method. Sorry about my misstep.

GIBRALTAR C DE 15 99

In the StampWorld.com catalogue, this British Office in Morocco stamp appears to be the second issue of this Queen Victoria series issued in 1899. Number 10 has been assigned to this ten-centimos stamp.

The stamp was postmarked at a British Morocco post office, but we captured today's date from a transit postmark in Gibraltar.

The first four sets of Morocco Agencies were created by overprinting stamps of Gibraltar.

SUVA 16DE 1901

StampWorld.com lists this 1882 one-shilling stamp as their number 36. Queen Victoria who is featured on this stamp had died in 1901 and there were a number of these stamps left over. It was decided to cancel them and sell them as remainders. C.T.O. stamps bear December dates in 1901, and the stamp shown is one of them. Suva is the capital of Fiji.

And another.

FOLKESTONE DE16 99

Why was a five-pound stamp even issued? In today's money it would be the equivalent of issuing a £768 stamp when inflation is taken into account.

So here are the usages of this stamp:
Internal accounting, bulk mailings, excise taxes and some telegrams.

It was not commonly used for regular postage, as a £5 value was far in excess of typical mailing costs at the time. Fewer than five examples of the stamp with proven ordinary postal use are recorded to exist, highlighting that its usage was largely administrative and fiscal rather than for mailing individual letters or parcels.

The stamp was issue in 1882 and StampWorld.com has assigned number 66 for Great Britain. Folkestone is a coastal town on the English Channel.

HAMILTON 16 DEC 68B BERMUDA

At the1968 Mexico Olympics, Bermuda participated in sailing and track. Unfortunately, no medals this time. To commemorate their participation, four stamps were issue with a common design. The three-penny stamp was produced with a missing color which was discovered by a local collector after purchasing a quantity of the stamps for his letters.

P.N. Greenshields secured 24 mint copies of the error, and I have seen two envelopes he mailed to himself using the error on the day of his purchase. One envelope contained two copies (SG 220a) in a vertical pair. The other featured a normal copy and the error as seen here.

Lastly

PROTECTORAT FRANCAISE 16 DEC 36 WALLIS

The denomination is 15 centimes and was issued in 1920. StampWorld.com has assigned number 6 to this Wallis and Futuna stamp.
