NEW DELHI The stamps used on this mailing are StampWorld.com official stamps numbers 106 (featuring George VI, first issued in 1939) and 116 (a 1948 issue featuring Ghandi). The former being a half-anna denomination and the latter a one and a half annas. Post independence, The India Security Press was entrusted with the task of producing stamps and they were working on a set to honor Ghandi. But then Gandhi was assassinated. The Indian Government decided to print these stamps as a memorial, using a photogravure press, and hence had to employ the services of the Swiss printers, Courvoisier, instead of the India Security Press. |

CAMEROONS U.K.T.T. While administering that area of the Cameroons that was entrusted to Great Britain, stamps of Nigeria were overprinted, beginning in 1960, for use in the U.K.T.T. The two-penny stamp showing tin mining overprinted as shown is StampWorld.com number 4. Sorry I unable to complete the rest of the month. I am going to relatives for the holidays in the mountains while school is out. There is little infrastructure there, but it is a beautiful place to visit. I was ready with every date but DE 28 as you can see. Best wishes for the holidays. |
