CENTRAL PACIFIC

NAURU, SG 31A: The series was first issued in 1924 and features the CENTURY, a cargo ship or freighter that was used to transport phosphate that was mined on the island. This is a three-penny block of four most likely from the later printing on whiter paper from 1937. This series was replaced in 1954 by the first QEII definitive stamps.

RABACCA
FE 6
98

This portrait of Queen Victoria was first used on St. Vincent stamps in 1861. The five-pence shown here (#52) was the time this designed would be used and was issued in 1897. The only reference to Rabacca today on St. Vincent is of a dry river with that name. It is a seasonal river, with its source is at Mount Soufriere. It is most likely, that the community was obliterated during the 1902-03 volcanic eruptions at Mount Soufriere.

BASSE TERRE

Image sleuth reveals the year to most likely be 1912. However, as the France Colonies twenty-five centimes was issued in 1881, I am inclined to guess the year to be 1882, as there is an element of murkiness in the image sleuth reveal. The catalogue number for the stamp is Yvert #53 or SW.C #52.
