Regumming And Offsets - PF Opinion Book

Hi All,

I was looking through my copy of Opinions II - PF's Inside View book and saw this paragraph from the "Gum: Original or Not?" paper. It seems to imply offset inking UNDER gum indicates regumming. I'm not so sure ... most used flat plate stamps I have show offset gum on the paper (especially WF's). I would think offset marks occur when sheets are first printed and stacked before gumming. What do you think?

I think you are right gumming comes after printing. Plus I have used washington/franklins stamps no gum that have complete offset ink on back.

Was this a general remark, or did it refer to a specific time period? I agree that there are a vast quantity of offsets on stamps without gum.

I don't have a copy in front of me, but I would be curious to know who wrote the article.

Thanks for the replies. The other info and advice in the paper was good. This part just caught my eye and having another opinion helps clarify.

I would certainly dismiss that particular statement. There are many many OG stamps with offset below the gum.
