Left over from my cataloging.

I presume the first two "appendix" stamps.
The other a Seebeck reprint, with strange "Potosi" cancel.

Any information welcomed.

Hi Rod,

Here are a few thought but no answers I'm afraid!

I like these modern Nicaragua literacy designs with D for Danto (i.e. T for Tapir) and so on.

The surprising thing is that they don't say correos or aereo so I guess they're not postage stamps.

BTW, SG doesn't have an appendix listing for Nicaragua.

The early stamp appears to be that of the 1882 design - I wonder if it's a cut-out from a wrapper or a forgery?

The original stamps like this were issued before the Seebeck period and then made invalid when many were cancelled with counterfeit postmarks. I believe the typical postmarks when these stamps were valid consisted of a number over a letter, such as 2 over R for the Rivas district (where includes the town of Potosi).

I look forward to hear the real story from someone.

Hello Nigel,
I appreciate your comments, thanks for responding.
I had to check, as I would have laid London to a brick
the violet was an N.F. Seebeck, but Gibbons confirms
they did not appear until 1890.

The original was recess, so I guess you are correct again,
but why someone would forge such a low cv issue is always odd.

At least now, I can hawk these around Nicaraguan websites
in search of an answer. I am not surprised I get these,
considering some of the floor sweepings I purchase.

I wonder if the faux stamps are represented by every letter of the alphabet?

The alphabet stamps are listed in the Freestampcatalogue as the first issue for 1981. It is a set of 7 stamps (for illiteracy): S, A, N, D, I, N, O, and listed as Michel A/G2180.

Thankyou
I shall appoint the SG numbers 2267 a-f for these.

Re-confirms my desire for an English Michel catalogue
I am writing to Santa tonight, and will include some Milk Arrowroot
and powdered milk.

Or perhaps not, and it would it not be a-g? SG MS2267 is already taken (for a Resplendent Quetzal)

You rotter!
I knew after I posted SANDINO was a-g
but I thought no one would notice.

To fit in between the resplendent Quetzal
SG2268 is taken
So 2267 a-g is the only space available
(to keep the images in order)

I suspect that, after all this time, you are uninterested in further information, or already have the answer to your query, but in case anyone is interested, this is the solution to the early "stamp" question.
It is a cut-out, taken from an envelope issued in 1889. The original envelope, 10 cent violet on blue paper, was issued in 1888. (information from H & G catalogue).

Truly ghastly, Rod. But ... my 1984 SG Central America lists these as MS 2015, issued 16 April 1975. CV then was £1.75 each.

You need to do an apprenticeship with Sharjah and Umm al Quiwain Geoff.
Maybe State of Oman.

I had not read "Paul Revere's Ride" before, so that was interesting.
