The grill dimensions tell you what stamp it is. It is 14 x 17 POINTS. The catalog entries tell you what dimension the grills are, both in mm and in POINTS. So just match it to what the catalog says. There is only one answer. You need to fully read both grill descriptions (that I shared) to come to the right answer. |

To be explicit, the 3-cent 1861-1867 design with grill, 14 columns by 17 rows = Scott #88. Nothing to sneeze at but not a lottery win. |

Futch, Over the past 15-20 posts various members have patiently guided you through the ID process (teaching you to fish for yourself), then finally revealing the answer (giving you a fish). Hopefully this process will enable you to confidently identify the next grill you encounter. Having seen the process, do you agree with their stamp identification? I do not know what printed/online resources you are using, but obtaining copy of the Scott U.S. Specialized catalog will be extremely helpful to you. A copy 4-10 years old can be bought for a substantial discount. |
