I'm interested in some blocks I found in an album that were wrapped very nicely. Some have neat inking anomalies and another with a stunning double impression which I've never seen on a Japanese stamps before. But there are these two that I have questions about.

Scott mentions this series can have roulettes and private perforations, but was this rouletted #351 done privately or by the manufacturer? I can't find any examples online of private perforations or (private?) roulettes, but Scott mentions manufactured roulettes found occasionally in other years as well.

And this #358 on white paper has a marginal inscription that's different from what I've seen the Kyoto Philatelic Exhibition sheets of the same series. This one has 10 characters, and reads "Manufactured by Dai Nippon Imperial Printing Bureau". Were there two different manufacturers for the same series?

Can you clean up your typo? You listed the same Scott number for both designs.

Beyond that observation I am useless for answering the question.

EDIT:

Your are welcome.

That correction allows proper searching in the future when other have the same question.

Thanks for the below VVVVVV

Hey Peter. I see that it's been rouletted, but Scott says vaguely that they can be found in both roulettes and private perfs. But I have not come across any examples of either except this one, potentially. The manufacturer used what looked like a hyphen hole roulette on a 30 sen stamp around the same time, so I'm curious as to why only some of the sheets were rouletted. Hopefully there are some Japanese users on here that can clarify both the purpose and provide examples of other roulettes and private perforations.

am I missing something or not understanding what I am looking at here. The 1st photo back of stamp shows what appears to be a type of blind perforation (dash cut) thus with a pressed fold you could actually tear the individual stamp from the block without using a cutting tool.????

Eligies: as noted, the first stamp is rouletted.
