Hello everyone,

I recently came across a very unusual stamp and haven't been able to find any information about it online or in standard catalogues.

It's a Swedish 5 öre stamp from 1943 Oscar Montelius. What makes it stand out is a large black marking that reads "HUNDRA KRONOR" ("100 kronor") — 2000 times higher than the original face value. The style and placement are unusual, and I haven't seen anything similar on other stamps from this issue.

I'm wondering if anyone here has come across similar markings or has any information about them. Could this be a local charity cancel, a private postmark, or something else entirely?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. And if you have similar items in your collection, I'd love to see them!

It's a postmark, not an overprint. Will this be appearing on ebay at a high price?

Actually, I believe the circular markings with the "12" are the postmark. This "HUNDRA KRONOR" marking appears to be separate from that... no clue what it is.

Thanks for your reply! This 'HUNDRA KRONOR' looks like it could be a machine cancellation, but it seems unusually high in value for that time — especially considering the stamp is 5 öre, which is 2,000 times less. I'm wondering if you someone have similar items in collection

This stamp comes from a postal money order. To avoid forgeries and changing of amounts some postal money orders were marked by a check protector print EJ ÖVER/HUNDRA KRONOR(=not over hundred kroner) or something like that. Sometimes this print hit the stamp on the money order. I enclose an image of a postal money order with a print like this at left of the stamp
