I have a few fairly dull 1950s FDCs, but this scruffy item is my favourite - Algiers, 30 January 1852.

Wow, GeoffHa!! this is really a great early item with a very clear postmark. Thanks for sharing it. Will be glad to see your other Algeria covers when you have spare time.

My "oldest" Algeria cover is a century younger than yours, from 1948. I don't collect Algeria stamps and I bought it for my Indochina collection since the propaganda postmark calling to join the Indochina association.

Prehistoric Rock Paintings of the Tassili n'Ajjer World Heritage Site, Algeria

Tassili n'Ajjer, meaning "Plateau of the Rivers" in Berber, is a mountain range in Algeria's Sahara Desert. It is renowned for its rich Neolithic rock art, depicting cattle, wild animals, and human activities like hunting and dancing. With over 15,000 engravings, it holds exceptional archaeological and artistic value. The area also features striking eroded sandstone formations. In 1982, UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site.

Issued on January 29, 1966.
