OK @johnsim03, if I had been drinking I would have spit that all over my computer monitor!

And now I know the real way to mount my stamps! If it is good enough to mount on a mailed letter, it is good enough to mount in my stamp book!

I used to lick them until I saw the damage that can be done as I outlined in a previous post. I transitioned to a damp sponge and holding the hinge with my stamp tongs.

I never thought of using tongs to handle the hinge, my ten thumbs always seems to get in the way. I've bought some albums where the entire collection was hinged and the stamps were easy to remove. I use hingeless mounts now.

The video with Vincent green was quite interesting, there are some things I had never given a thought to...

"Megatongue" is clearly also easier to do when you stupidly put the short side of the hinge on the paper - I am often having to work quite hard to get stamps off the paper where they were wet over the top of the hinge. This sometimes means using removal fluid on the back of the page to get the stamp to release.

With today's quality of hinges, where they all seem to be made by the same manufacturer, which come out of the pack curled, creased, multi-folded, non-separated, etc. it is hard to imagine trying to apply the hinge with a pair of tweezers. It is hard enough to try and apply a hinged stamp flat on the page with 2 hands let alone a pair of tweezers.

Sometimes I feel like I need to use tongs to separate them. I have not yet attempted to stick them to stuff using tongs, but I will

Uggg....

Not used to doing that with tongs. Tricky. Was trying to follow what was done in the posted video. I am used to adhering in the book first, wetting the small part and putting the stamp on it.

Definitely works better if I do not wet the entire large portion (so what is recommended in the video). I am staring at a few stamps I just adhered to test.

Yes all modern day hinges are manufactured by one company Prinz in Germany. How do I know this is true? I have contacted Prinz directly many, many, many, many, many times. Yes 5 times and several different employees of the company over the years. Just do a "search" on SCF and you shall see.
