While reading the various threads, I saw references to software used. For instance a perforation software platform. I would like to up my stamp collection with some software.

What software would you recommend for a general US and Worldwide collector?

I run a MacBook Pro so I think my options are probably limited.

You need to search elsewhere, at least 1 version I would recommmend is persona non grata here and not allowed to be mentioned.

I use the Limaye Big Blue spreadsheet for WW pre-1940, and built my own spreadsheet for Ireland Issues.

When you say "up your stamp collection", do you want software to inventory stamps and be able to create reports, etc?

@angore, Yes I just want software to inventory my collection. The software I found online is not Mac friendly so I'm wondering if the is a "stealth" program out there. My searches really don't show much.

would you consider the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet? I find this an easy inventory data base that with all it's 'tools' could be quite complicated. ( I keep it as simple as possible). Your design, your functions, what you consider important. ( you can add & enhance as needed). Just a thought. (It is compatible to the MAC I think??)

I'm not a Mac person, but I had thought that Macs can run a Windows "simulator" so that you can run Windows programs. I could be wrong, though.

Excel is part of the Microsoft Office suite and there is a Mac version. Files are fully compatible with the Windows version.

I found some software online, but crying-out-loud it is expensive. I'm sure the price is justified for what you get, but I'm not ready to pay so much.

In the mean time, I think I will design my own spreadsheet using Numbers for Mac. Numbers is the Apple equivalent to Microsoft Excel.

Thank you all for your feedback.

I use LibreOffice on a late-2012 iMac. That has a spreadsheet option.

I just brought home a grab bag of covers from Australia, and an advert for a Stamp Collecting Software was included. "Stampware" from Seven Seas Stamps was mentioned. However, the booklet was obviously an advertisement for "Stamp Collector" created by a Robin Smith in Perth, Australia. Here are a few scans. First, the booklet cover:

The next page describes how the software can run on the modern computers of the time, from an XT to something that is running at least DOS 3.0.

The inside shows the magnificent reports that you create, as long as you enter in all of the data for every single line.

Lastly, the price, which to me looks incredibly expensive for 1994. But luckily you can get it on 3 1/2 or 5 1/4 inch floppies. (Remember those?)

You better order now before it becomes obsolete ...
