The Scott catalogue lists two perforations for the 1 anna, Star & Crescent stamp numbers 47 & 47a. No. 47 is listed as perf 12, issued in 1950, and no. 47a is listed as perf 13 issued in 1952. I ran across a stamp that measures perf 13.4. Scott's convention is usually to round off perforations to nearest ˝ measurement, so this stamp I have should be listed as 47a at perf 13˝ if the catalogue is in error. If the catalogue is correct then it appears I have a perforation error stamp. Please advise if this is a known catalogue error. Thanks

Stanley Gibbons "Emmpire" lists

SG44: perf 12˝, issued 1949 (i.e., no year different from the general issue date)
SG44a: perf 13˝, issued 1953? (sic)

It appears Scott is rounding to whole numbers and not halves.

I would call it a catalogue error. This is not the first time I have run across this issue with Scott.

My experience with Scott is limited to what I see posted here. I am underwhelmed when it comes to European countries and colonies. Then again, I tend to measure by standards of my own catalogues that are always the primary catalogues of the European countries I collect. It might well be the case that Stanley Gibbons and Yvert are not so good from the viewpoint of a US collector.

You are free to notify Scott about your concerns and work with them for a correction or addition as appropriate. The catalog is printed on paper, not carved in stone and each edition has revisions listed from the prior edition. Sadly humans are not perfect and the catalogue is produced by humans for humans.
