I understand that fakes abound of the Scott 315. Also, I understand that having an accompanying certification is preferred when purchasing one. My question: By what age (approximately) would a Philatelic Foundation cert for a Scott 315 be considered too old to be reliable, given advances in expertizing technologies?

Anything longer than 10 years should be updated if it is a new purchase. Obviously if someone bought an item with a new cert and still has it many years later, then there is no real need unless the plan is to sell it soon.
