j2186, I fear that your 15 is a 45, so 15 is still missing. But your 16 looks good to me.
More, please! |

pjr: I see what you are getting at. Bulterman in an article in the Postzak, September 1987 gives the following images for 15 and 45: So I am pretty sure that mine is not a 45. Just to be on the safe side, here is another 15 (Boxtel): Jan |

I'm going to complain arbitrarily that John Becker's beautiful 18 is a cancellation that includes the numeral 18, rather than a numeral cancellation. This gives me an excuse to share this: It's a 2d blue from Plate 4 (wmk small crown, perf 16) of 1855 (when the plate had been in use for six years), cancelled in Deptford, London. What makes it interesting to me is not the commonplace cancellation but the extensive evidence of plate corrosion, especially in the top left and bottom left corners. As Stanley Gibbons puts it: "Several attempts to clear this corrosion by burnishing were made during the lifetime of Plate 4, but as more of the hardening was removed at each operation, further corrosion and wear occurred on the affected areas." An ultra-specialist could fill an album with examples of the various states of all 240 positions in Plate 4. |

Quote: 'm going to complain arbitrarily that John Becker's beautiful 18 is a cancellation that includes the numeral 18, rather than a numeral cancellation. The 18 in a roller cancel I posted does the same as the majority of the other recent numbers - it identifies a device. But apparently "size matters" according to the new rules. LOL |

John Becker: I said my objection was arbitrary and it gave me an excuse. No criticism was intended.
But it occurs to me that it would be a good idea not to have multiple numerals in a single post. Somebody might have a beautiful 45 to display, but be unable to do so (without making an arbitrary excuse) if somebody else posts 43 to 50 inclusive all at once. |
