I ran across these two stamps recently and would appreciate any information that may be out there regarding the markings on the face. I suspect they are not actually place name postmarks but are, instead, commercial overprints to guard against unauthorized use or theft of the postage. These may well be partial names with one reading "WELER" and the other "SAMI" or possibly "SAMI A". The stamps do not appear to have had a regular postmark applied but are not gummed or even partially gummed so most likely have been used.

Any information would be appreciated.

These are indeed postmarks, generally small villages.

The first one appears to be SAMPANG and the second is WELERI

Thank you to both. I honestly had not expected that these would be true postmarks. One thing about them though. Was there another stamp on the mailed item that gave the date of mailing?

The only one I could find: PERBAOENGAN

As to your question about a date mark on the cover, the office of mailing would not have a date stamp. Only if the cover went through a post office before delivery and received a transit mark there would there be a date on the cover.
