Item: A 1941 British Mandate of Palestine Birth Certificate
Stamp: 1927-1948 R102 10 mils Revenue Stamp. Scroll down for links about Palestinian revenue stamps. This particular one was reissued several times until 1947. I think this has more value to a philatelist for it still surviving in decent shape on the document it was intended for - payment for issuance of such vital government documents as birth certificates.

This is my father's birth certificate. Born in 1936 and passed away in 2010. He was born in Jerusalem.

The birth certificate was originally stored folded with other identification documents. Fortunately it was stored in a metal box in a cool, dry place away from direct light. For now, I have it stored unfolded in archival/non-PVC plastic sleeves in a non-PVC plastic box. I know some of you will see some damage from tape - I decided not top do anything about to avoid damaging it further.

P.S. IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A GOOD DOCUMENT ARCHIVIST IN THE BOSTON AREA, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. MUCH APPRECIATED.

(This site offers a great detailed listing of Revenue stamps from just after ww1 to January 1948. https://www.revrevd.com/palestine-printings.html)

You could interleave the certificate between two sheets of conservation-grade Mylar or similar. That would protect it. I gather conservation of a document like this would cost quite a bit, especially as the use of water-based ink in the writing will make cleaning difficult.

The northeast document conservation center is in Andover, and is one of the most experienced paper conservation operations in the US.
