WalesWhen King Charles III acceded to the throne, he expressed his wish that there would be no unnecessary waste of stamps. Stamps printed with the profile or portrait of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, should be used up before stamps with his profile or portrait would be issued. The first special stamps with the King's profile were issued om 23 March 2023 (British Flowers). The first permanent stamps with the King's effigy were issued on 4 April 2023, almost seven months after his accession.
Stocks of regional stamps for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales that had been issued on 11 August 2022 have lasted much longer. On 14 November 2024, more than two years after the King's accession, Welsh country stamps with the profile of King Charles III were issued.
