Stampgal, naturally, being Italian he did a lot of work
for the Vatican, and San Marino, but San Marino were
into photolithography in their process.

Wow, beautiful Rod. Thanks for sharing. Nice to see them all. The 5 & 30 Lire ones are very pretty.

I really love the colors and spirit of the 65 Lire one. It is the one that caught my eye about this set to start with.

If you want to see it in hi-res you can click here:

Unfortunately when you see it full blown you will realize this series is not that sharply printed, but still beautiful colors and scenes.

Another look at some of our favourite stamps, one being the 3c 1934 Canada Scott#208 (Jacques Cartier) and a great display of Italian stamps.

My favorite Canadian stamps have to be the scroll issues.

I have just read through this topic for the first time and have to agree that the Italian set is very lovely. The lack of definition of the stamps of course is caused by the printing method. I think it is photogravure, but may be other. Photogravure just can't compete with engraving for crisp images.

Stallzer: great scans of the King George V scroll stamps (Canada Scott#149; Canada Scott#154). I think it's the first time I've noticed the penetrating eyes.
