I recently aquired a small quantity of 1860's British stamps and would like to know if there is any reference that identifies the various numeral cancilations. Mostly Scott # 33 stamps. Also trying to figure out the plate numbers but having a hard time trying to ID them. Thanks in advance for heading me in the right direction.

An introduction to the numeral postmarks and a very detailed list of the England and Wales post office numbers available as free downloads from the Great Britain Philatelic Society.

Lists of the Scottish and Irish numbers are also available.

There's an enormous lot of variety in the numeral cancellations and duplex devices, especially from the larger offices eg: Liverpool and Manchester.

These files, for England and Wales, will be of great help

Thank you both for the links. Lots of useful information. I finally got them sorted into a stock book. Looks like a winter project to try to figure them all out. A previous owner marked many of the stamps with plate numbers on the back in pencil.
