hello,

I have another question about an old note I made years ago :).
For the 2c Washington Sc 425 I noted that there is a vermilion color variety known to exist.

I searched both PF and APEX archives and did not find the term vermilion, and when looking at the images, not really vermilion ones.

But those two here could be vermilion - perhaps. At least I don't see why they have been sent for certification :).

Any thoughts or sources?

To start with, if the owner did not consider the stamps to be vermilion, the owner would not have had any reason to sent them for certification.

Most importantly, as online image will show different colours on different screens and scanning devices rarely capture the exactcolour, it is pure speculation that they could be vermilion. Only the owner can see the true colour and may have confirmed they are any colour but vermilion.

Siegel has never sold a vermillion 425 so it probably does not exist.

From what I remembered this was a bit an enigmatic stamp color for the 425, lost for philateliy, but I don't find my sources again :). I thought of this again while looking for many 425, and it seems indeed that some appear a bit vermilion. So perhaps it is a common shade that was only not defined as such in the catalogue. Perhaps one day we could start a "my most vermilion 425" thread :).
