Are there any good places to see how many stamps of an issue were printed? I thought I remembered this being in the Postal Bulletin, but I don't see it

Go to the Features page on Stamp Smarter. https://stampsmarter.org/features/H...eatures.htmlFind the Popup US Stamp Tool LAUNCH Select the Stamp Category, then the stamp you want. Not all stamps have production numbers. On this page, Catalog No. 1 had 3,600,000 stamps issued There are occasional lookup errors. Just try again. I do not know just where Don found the production numbers displayed, but I would believe that he had a reliable source, or he would not have included the data. If you find entries which you believe are in error, please contact me via PM here or the [CONNECT] button on the Stamp Smarter home page. Please include the catalog number, the incorrect quantity, your correct quantity, and the source of your information. Thanks. MikeL |

The site is a shadow of itself which is a shame since it is linked from numerous high visibility stamp collecting search results that could bring in new collectors. I am not throwing stones without recognizing that it is a free site run by volunteers with good and pure intentions. If I was competent in IT I would jump in but I am not. Stamp Smarter needs some love because it has turned into that beautiful house that has a leaking roof and slowly rots away. It is obvious that for whatever reasons it isn't getting the care it requires. |

rogdcam and others:
We are aware of the database access issues on Stamp Smarter and working with our hosting service to try and resolve them. The holidays have not helped.
The problem appears to be some form of timing issue at the server level (which is out of our control), generally when a user is executing multiple inquiries on the same webpage page and database table. If you encounter the server error, go back to the URL and refresh the entire page. This seems to clear the problem, at least temporarily.
We will continue to work with the hosting service, and hope to have this resolved in a reasonable time. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The database errors are not the only problem. Last time I got the database errors, I tried to circumvent the problem by using the "Search by year", "Search by keyword", "Search by Scott number" options (basically whatever options there are). None of the options worked. For example, I entered "1991" from the dropdown list and nothing happens. |

Once the timing mismatch occurs, every subsequent search will fail. Refresh the page, and it works again. We have not been able to identify the source of the timing mismatch, and do not have access to the service providers internal logs. |

Yes I usually tried to refresh the pages. It would usually jump to the start screen (for the example above, it would show Scott #1 to ..) and then another try of jumping to the Scott # I want to see, it would dump the database error log again. Sometimes the "Show next" option would work for 1-3 times so I tried to "microjump to my page", but usually a database dump happened long before I rearched "my item".
StampSmarter has worked nicely for years but at some point this year, it went all crazy... |

StampSmarter has always worked for me, and continues to work with no issues. I never get database error messages. mml1942, thank you for your work. drkohler, I would be willing to relay any specific info for you, if you like. |

It would seem to point to the timing problems mentioned by mmi1942. Maybe just pings too high or something which there might not be a remedy for the "outsiders". |

Stampstarter website status update.https://stampsmarter.org/index.htmlFor a number of months, some of the features on the Stamp Smarter website have experienced intermittant (and some times extensive) issues, usually associated with features that were using information stored in various databases. After extensive investigations, and with the cooperation of our hosting service provider, we believe that these issues have been resolved. Many of our users who regularly post here had reported these issues to us. If you were previously frustrated with the performance of a feature you regularly used, please help us verify that these issues are resolved by testing the areas you regularly used, and let me know if you continue to experience ANY issues. You can contact me through this Forum, or through the [CONNECT] button on the Stamp Smarter home page. Thanks to everyone who uses Stamp Smarter and who reported problems. Please always notify me if you encounter problems with any part of the website Mike L Community Support |
