NSK refers to websites that are stamp catalogues but I don't see anywhere in his post the name of the one he includes the image for -- or any others. Did I just not see it? Is there some reason not to identify them?

Certainly.

That layout is a hint. Also, it is the only one that is quite consistent in listing Scott, Yvert, Michel, Stanley Gibbons, and, usually, a local publisher. Another one is LastDodo, but that, generally, will not list Scott. Also, whereas it is helpful to get a general idea, it is highly unreliable for a correct identification.

GeoffHa. Yes they each have a stamp issued for their accomplishments in thre literary field so my description includes a nhort note on their Resistance activities. Coming from a family that is French helped quite a bit in getting names. I even have a FDC honoring the Comete Line, signed by de Jonghe "Dedee" one of those active in the Comete Line active in France and Belgium.

There are, of course, more than a few whose participation in the resistance was minimal, but who took care to burnish their credentials after the liberation of Paris - Sartre is probably the best example.

We tend to have a rather "western" slant about history and I thk it is part of the issuance of stamps even if unconscious. Despite what we see and read the French Resistance was in some example merely on a par if not less than movements in Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and partisan fighters in Poland, Russia, and eben Albania are very completely overlooked, and given the political atmospere in the late 1940s. It is sort of how we issue stamps as well. Just take a look at the number of stamps we issued that recognize the Revolutionary War and the Declaration. Aside from GW, Jefferson, and Franklin, few of the 55 signers are on US stamps, and the others who are, like Livingston, on a stamp not for helping to draft the Declaration but for the Louisiana Purchase.
