Today I posted in Postmarks.day By Day. One of the postmarks was for TORONTO ONT Postal Terminal A

When I can, I like to supplement my post with a story. I tried to figure out the location in 1939 where this postmark might have been in use. Google & AI seem to think it would be at an airport on Toronto Islands or the airport at Malton.

I never resolved the matter.

If anyone knows, kindly chime in an enlighten me.
Thank you.

I saw this photograph of the Toronto Postal Delivery Building and wondered if this could be the site.

There was a Philatelic window at postal station A where I would get stamps
in the sixties and seventies instead of ordering from the Philatelic Center in Ottawa.

@rogdcam - you hit a grand slam with your response. Thank you very much.
@lithography - thank you too for the additional information.

Now I have a clear picture concerning the location of Terminal A in Toronto.

And if we look to google street view and stand on Front street W at or near the intersection of Bay we see the left end of the building that contained the postal station as evidenced by engraving in overhead stonework. The middle section with a left and right doorway has engravings in stone work overhead. It shows Canadian Pacific Railway to left and Grand Trunk Railway to the Right. In between is larger lettering - Union Station. Below that it states Erected by the Toronto Terminals Railway Company and year in Roman numerals. At the far right of the building near the Young Street intersection is another entrance with Railway Offices engraved in stonework overhead.

Here are a couple of photos of Postal Station A then and now.
Location is the SW corner of Front St West and Bay Street.

Circa 1930

Circa 2024 with the CN Tower in the background looking west.

Lithograving, regarding the now. Is it still the actual postal station, or has it moved elsewhere? The google street views available now from a couple of years ago, show a moving truck out in front around 2020 moving materials. In or out, don't know. And at a different angle, you can see a large orange tarp covering the doorway but pushed outward by obviously positive pressure in the building. Renovations maybe?

I haven't been in the DT area much in the last 15 years therefore I'm
not certain if there still is a Canada Post outlet there.
But when checking for Canada Post offices in the area on Google it shows
none at Front and Bay and the closest is at the Royal Bank Plaza at 200 Bay.

Also Google maps shows that The Atmospheric Fund a non - profit organization
is now located at 61 Front St W and the Blue Bovine Steak + Sushi House is
at 65 Front St W.

Gentlemen All

Again, thank you for your research and comments. Google and AI gave me leads to the back end of the facility (TORONTO POSTAL DELIVERY BUILDING) but it failed to show me the front end of the complex that had the evidence carved in the wall.

Kindest regards.
