I'd like to show you a stamp I acquired today from a group of Russian stamps. I've cataloged it as SC#200c, which is SC#187 from 1921, featuring the allegory of "the new triumphant Russia" but with a red overprint of letters separated by periods. Although its condition isn't great, I think it's worth sharing since it can't be a very common stamp judging by its CV. Besides, it's quite striking. I don't know if it's the mysterious, allegorical design with its Art Nouveau typography, its dark color, the very sharp printing... I don't know... but it has something special. I'm very happy with it; I'd had my eye on the version without the overprint for some time.

Well... I guess I can't trust the catalog... I've always assumed that the higher the CV, the less common the stamp is... I understand that my stamp isn't in very good condition, but if the model were in good condition, I suppose it would be worth more than one dollar... |

Stampworld lists it at € 2.50 used. This is the (shared) lowest value in the set and even lower than the similar stamp with black overprint. What higher catalogue value did you find? |

This... This variety isn't listed on stampworld... I've searched the web and haven't found another one like it, I'm not much of a searcher... but I thought it would be a good stamp, despite its condition, for the forum's database... |

Those periods are not there on the Stampworld one. You got a point there. If that catalogue is correct, you would expect it to be worth a little more than a dollar. |

Murasama is right! It is unfortunate that his stamp has a missing margin on the right. |

@Murasama, You might try using some magnification to confirm that the postmark is over (on top of) the overprint? |

These are two high-resolution scanners More I see it, the more it reminds me of the Lovecraft and Cthulhu universe... |

Scans will not tell you which covers which because they are two-dimensional. |

Do not worry about the cancellation on your stamp, Murasama. The mint variety of your stamp, as per the specialized Russia catalogues, is priced quite higher than the used one, so no one would bother faking it. Nice find, despite the missing margin. |
