After much more than a glance, I thought the crease was the top of a page pocket too. I hereby downgrade my "Nice!" to "Nice" without the exclamation mark. (And I suspect that the cover was folded with the stamps on it.)

According to J B Seymour, 10d paid the basic letter rate to France, or the rate for 6oz letters within the UK. Mr Seymour doesn't list all rates, so there may be other possibilities.

Darn, that has my initials on it too... I suppose I could buy it, then cut out that block of nine from the lower left, so SB is in the center, and resell the remainder. :)
