I don't know how this slipped by collectors of Quabbin items, but I scored this cover from Enfield MA, a town which is now under the Quabbin Reservoir here in Massachusetts.

GRANTED the stamps have awful centering, but it is the ENFIELD cancel that I wanted.

Can anyone here give me any other info regarding markings? It WAS registered, correct?

Nice cover Nells! I started collecting covers from dead Quabbin towns about ten years ago and somehow the effort faded away as pickings were slim. Such a cool topic.

NEAT! It seems, just as an observer, mind you, people prefer photographic images to postal stuff. I have an original photo of the Enfield railroad station in my RR collection.

Feel free to share some of your Quabbin stuff here! I don't mind if you hijack my thread!

Love the photo Nells!

I will post some covers once I can figure out where they are. LOL

Years ago, I did a lot of hiking and exploring at Quabbin. For a while the water level was historically low and I could walk into areas that had been underwater since the first time the reservoir was inundated. I walked old roads and stone walls and foundations were everywhere along with discarded "trash" like old bottles and leather shoes. There were even the remains of 20's era vehicles albeit with not much left. It was eerie and beautiful at the same time. Love Quabbin. It is like a massive Western Ghost town with a New England atmosphere.

oh MAN that sounds neat! I have yet to actually walk around the area, other than the area now shut to vehicles, by the MSP headquarters. I'd like to see what's left of the country club on the shore.
