Following on a thread in another subforum, wanted to share some findings from a Spanish collection I catalogued, this time from 1873/76 to around 2013.

The catalogue value per StampWorld is surprisingly low:

Vol 1: 1876-1981, 1185 pcs, $615
Vol 2: 1982-2003, 587 pcs, $381
Vol 3: 2003-2013, 366 pcs, $501
Duplicates: 813 pcs, aprox. $257

Granted there were few Civil war issues, mint or early high value items.

The album also had 301 franking labels both in Euro and Pesetas which I wasn't able to inventory on that site, these are given a price of $1.79 per label which would make it the most valuable segment. Could that really be the case?

Below are photos from this album, your kind comments are appreciated.

Best regards,

Even if there are relatively many expensive Spanish stamp sets from the 1920s - 1940s era, that price tends to be based on one or two stamps in very long series. Those are the ones that saw relatively little use either because they covered a fringe tariff or were replaced / replacements.

I do like many Spanish designs. Engravers / designers like Luis López Sánchez Toda came up with some very beautifully engraved stamps. The bi-coloured engraved stamps had surprising colour combinations.

Yes, some wonderful designs and illustrations in this collection, very evocative, My favorites are the Conquistadors, Coat of Arms and Spanish Dresses series.

Having visited the country near to two hundred times and having stayed in some ninety towns visiting more than twenty others on the go, I, very much, like the Paisajes y Monumentos, Castillos, and Monasterios series. They are beautifully engraved, have colour combination that work surprisingly well, and many depict familiar sights.

My favourite set, however, would be the 1937 - 1939 Cifras, Cid e Isabel one. It remains on my watch list.
