A few weeks ago I acquired in a local auction a Yvert & Tellier album containing France circa 1880 - 1953. Even though I had some French stamps they were mainly post WWII. Since France has issued so many engraved stamps over the years I was surprised that the first one didn't appear until 1928. The Atelier de Fabrication des Timbres-Poste - Paris had many engravers but up until that time they only engraved typography stamps and/or banknotes. Antonin Delzers 1873-1943 worked on a few typography stamps before he engraved his first recess engraved stamp in 1930. FRANCE Scott B34 The Smile of ReimsDesigner : Louis Pierre Rigal |

Sorry as I am to interrupt this lovely flow of Cambodian goodies, I just wanted to show a signed die proof of the Lorenzi stamp jjarmstrong47 showed on page 172: Unfortunately I cannot make out the signature, but I don't think it's Gandon's. Could it be Lorenzi's after all??? |
