So glad to see Eva Peron listed! Love those stamps. Do you happen to know if Nicastro also engraved the other design in the set? Or, if not, who did?

AKPhilately - I don`t have that information yet.

María Adelma Cabrera (AKA Adelma Cabrera).
Born in 1939. Is an Argentine engraver.
She engraved several stamps and banknotes from mid-sixties until the end of the 90's.

Like other engravers sometimes included her signature within the image.

Battle of Chacabuco (1967)
and her signature C.A (Cabrera Adelma)

Pope Paulo VI (1979)
She signed "Cabrera" on the shoulder

1982 - $500 Banknote
Monument to the Army of the Andes in Cerro de La Gloria, Mendoza

jorgesurcl, those Argentine are very well engraved stamps, plus
I like the fact that the engravers include their names or
initials in the design.

I'm just wondering though as to why the Casa De Moneda printed so few
engraved stamps since they had the presses and excellent engravers.

Between 1955 and 1966 Argentina issued only about half a dozen
engraved stamps going by Scott. Then 5 more between 1966 - 1968,
then nothing until 1972 (Scott 981 Bartolome Mitre) then
fast forward to 1977 ( Scott 1132 Lois Braille).

Why so sporadic?

I realize that perhaps the Giori presses were used mainly for
banknote printing but still.

I have been updating my stamp printers website (finally!) and have a new page relating to stamp engravers at http://www.stampprinters.info/PRODengraving.htm

It includes my recent two-part article where I interviewed De La Rue engraver Chris Matthews and after a four hour session with him have told the story from burin on steel through to the latest computerised methods of engraving.

Also, I have listed links for any engraving/engraver-related text page or video that I have found online (23 links) . I think this could be a good location to place links that you come across.

Hopefully my site my prove of use. It is still a work in progress, but a look at the home page will reveal extent of content. GLENN

That is a great addition to an already invaluable site, Glenn. Looks like I have a lot more reading to catch up on.

I'd appreciate it if you could add a link to my database, another work in progress, trying to collate as much detail as I can find.

Cheers
John

Glenn I use your site frequently since it is
the only one that has a list of all the stamp
printing companies that have ever existed.

As you probably know, when one Googles Stamp Printers
or Stamp Printing Companies yours is right on top.

I enjoyed reading the Chris Matthews articles and
through them learned a bit more regarding computerized
stamp engraving.

Thank you for creating such a wonderful source of
philatelic information which we all appreciate.

I agree. The time required to produce engraved stamps must have influenced too

I just bumped into an image of a die proof signed by Charles Mazelin of one of the designs for the 1955 Cambodia definitive set, so that's another non-attributed stamp (in SG anyway) added to the list!

However, there are two designs in the set, one of the king (as shown) and one of the queen. And then there's a pretty identical set issued later in 1955 to mark the coronation, which combines the two portraits into one design.

Does anyone know whether these too were engraved by Mazelin? Or if not, then by whom?
