Auguste Jean-Marie Pavie (1847-1925) was a French colonial civil servant, explorer and diplomat who was instrumental in establishing French control over Laos in the last two decades of the 19th century. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Pavie, designed and engraved by Achille Ouvré, and issued by France on May 30, 1947, Scott No. 585, Y&T No. 784, plus an image of a photograph of Auguste Pavie in 1893. - nethryk   |

@graphis, Nice to see you back again posting a few.  Yes Belgium also issued some fine engraved stamps and the ones you posted look great. Since I don't have hardly any and I do like them, I was interested in a few Belgian lots in the last 2 Maresch Auctions. I didn't get any of them since the lots went above what I wanted to pay, specially when you add the 15% buyer's premium and then 13% HST on top of that. |

nethryk, that Auguste Pavie stamp was on my list for my next Ouvrés. How did you get the paper fairly white without making the image too bright? I'm not at all happy as to how these 1930s & 40s French stamps scan. My scanner picks up every detail in the paper which I don't want but never gets the colour right. |

lithograving...a dear friend of mine gave me a stamp album that was passed down to her....most of the stamps are dated late 1800's to mid the mid 1940's...i'm slowly going thru the album looking for stamps that haven't been posted here...so stay tuned...more to come. |
