AKPhilately - Well done! Excellent work and very useful. Thanks!

Engraver German Martin Orbe appears twice : in "M" and "O".

Martin is his first surname therefore should be in "M"

Glad you all like the new index! Like I said, I will endeavour to update and amend every ten pages, in order to keep the list of 'edited at...' entries as small as possible. Thanks everyone for the on and off site points for improvement.

One engraver not on the list yet is Robert Trsek.
Trsek who was born in 1959 in Linz Austria is mainly a
painter and graphic artist but has designed and engraved
a number of Austrian stamps.

His first stamp was for the 100th birth Anniversary
of Käthe Leichter.

175th birthday of Hans Kudlich, peasant liberator.

Scott 1770

Designer : M. Schulz

Engraver : Robert Trsek

Printing : 1 colour (blue ) engraved, multicolour photogravure

I believe this detail shows quite well how combining photogravure
with recess kind of "fleshes" out the portrait.

Here are some more from Robert Trsek.

I realize that some collectors of engraved stamps frown
upon any combination print and prefer only all engraved
examples but I believe any even partially engraved stamp
is better than no engraving at all.

The border is gold but it just doesn't show up in the scan.

Isn't that a cute face?

I checked Adrian's list and could not find that this one from Pfeiler had been posted already.

This was one of the last totally engraved Austrian stamps.

Thanks graphis, guess I'll stay awhile.

Yes the Kramer stamp shows how talented Werner Pfeiler
really was and he was just one of a team of excellent engravers
that were employed by the Österreichische Staatsdruckerei
(Austrian State Printer).

Pity that they closed up shop and scrapped the recess printing
presses but it was bound to happen after the ÖSD was
privatized in 1999.

Here is another engraver who didnt get a lot of work.
He was no Slania but then again who was?
Back on page 62 nethryk posted a few stamps engraved by Heinz W. Gutschmidt and included a short bio.

Quote:
Heinz W. Gutschmidt (1906-1974) was a German-born engraver who became a Swedish citizen in 1938.
He produced over two dozen stamps for his adopted country from 1961 to 1973.

Here are some more of his work.
