Nells , thanks for showing more of these fine examples of engraving.

After I looked at the French one for a bit I finally realized
it was issued to commemorate the 100th birthday of Albert Decaris
the master engraver.

It's nice to see a country honour such a superb craftsman who
was responsible for over 500 stamps and without his skills
French engraved stamps wouldn't be as popular as they are.

I only wish more countries did also.

Here is my little tribute to Albert Decaris.
I don't think nethryk has shown these yet but if he has...
what the heck.

These 3 issued in 1967 were I believe part of an ongoing
series recognizing Great Names in French History.

Not being an expert, I didn't know Decaris was a stamp engraver! I figured he was an artist... It wasn't until I scanned this thread that I saw his name and a lightbulb went on...

lithograving - I like your Tapisserie de Lurçat stamp! It's a bit psychedelic, but then what is wrong with that?

Well, there I was, all ready to move on to an engraver from another country, when lithograving had to go and mention yet another great French stamp designer and engraver, Claude Haley (1923-1988). Here are images of some more stamps designed (except as noted) and engraved by Haley, .

nethryk, it's nice to see a variety of engravers by your
showing of these fine examples by Alexander Laurén.

I believe though there might be an error (typo?)
in your quote
Quote:
worked for the Bank of Finland Security Printing House from 1922 to 1932

In my Michel it shows him still active until the Red Cross issue in 1955.

Keep up the great work in showing some of these lesser
known engravers.

lithograving - Thanks for pointing out my typo. I have corrected Alexander Laurén's retirement date to the correct year, 1952. Evidently, his work was used as late as 3 years after his retirement. Yes, let's try to keep this thread rolling along! I'll post some more stamps by another engraver soon. - nethryk

Although his active tenure at the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing was relatively brief (from 1967 to 1972), Edward R. Felver provided the vignette engraving work for several attractive stamps issued by the USA during those years. Here are images of some examples of Felver's skill.
