It doesn't appear to be a real postage stamp at all, rather a seal/sticker for the envelope.

With that said, you may find that soaking it wont remove the adhesive on the back much like modern self-adhesive stamps — or the colors may run.

What exactly, Kira, makes you think this might be an error stamp?

Edited to add: That is a real question and if answered will get a real reply.

I can see why it is a valid question. It has a machine marking and a perforated border, some type of central design, but country and value and other text omitted. It is not a far cry from:

Better to ask before soaking / throwing out rather then seeing someone auction a similar stamp for $1000 in a month after assuming it was nothing!

The tell is that it was placed over the flap point as a seal.

Looks like it was trimmed with a pair of pinking shears.

thanks for the input
it does look more like a sticker than a stamp

interesting that there are these red vertical bars as if the post office machine though it was a stamp and cancelled it right?

If it is as in Europe, the barcode contains address information. It is not a cancellation.

The bar code is an addressing function for machine use. If on postage stamps it counts as a cancellation preventing reuse.

Normally such barcoding is found at the bottom of an envelope. It was usually not trigger for application over stamps.

Here the rouletting does mimic modern stamps and yes there is a design, multi-color at that. But as pointed out after my post above no ID for value nor country. To be sure one would want to be aware if such a design was also issued with country and value symbols. Then a color missing error could be the case.

However in this case it appears a cinderella label made for some non-postal use.

Wise to ask first as you did.

so to answer the previous comment about real question/real answer

i saw a stamp in my canada catalog number 726b that was missing all the text
so I am checking to see if this non-canada stamp could have a similar issue as I have very little knowledge of world stamps
here is the image of that stamp
