I see some very nice high denomination FDCs, but they are all of relatively recent releases. What about the prexies and earlier? Don't people go after them as well?

This seems to be the first non-US FDC posted here. I bought this about a year ago for my Great Britain collection. I don't generally collect FDC's but I particularly liked this one. These days one pound is not very much money and barely covers the current first class postage rate in the UK, but in 1948, when this was issued it was a substantial amount of money, perhaps 10-12% of the weekly wages of the average worker, and at a time when the normal first class letter rate was, I believe 2 1/2d, one pound was 96 times the letter rate. Also, at that time, a large proportion of the stamp collecting community was made up of British schoolboys, so, this would have been quite beyond the budget of most of them. So with all that said, I doubt if there were a lot of these, even home made ones without commercial cachets.
